Video Production- The Process

It was very difficult to have access to a computer because all three groups needed it at the same time. If I had to go back and do anything to change my project, I would have managed my time wisely. We had a lot of difficulty with putting our footage onto the computer. For some reason the computer would not read the camera and therefore the footage would not read or appear. This was the most complicated part because we tried several times in several different ways. Nothing seemed to be working. Finally, Mr. Penning showed us a way to make save it onto the computer. We had to change a few settings to make this happen. This took alot of time so we didnt have the chance to edit very much.

Creation Phase of Week of April 20th

I had only one media class this week. my project still needed a few detailed touch ups and i had to save it on a CD and do my cd cover. I was unable to have the computer on that class due to other people being there. So, I decided I would come on wednesday morning. I showed up wednesday morning at 7 45. I was really disappointed that I could not get the computer because i was now on a time limit and I really needed to finish this. I had never saved my work on a CD before, so i knew the task would be somewhat difficult. When I came in, I finished the portfolio but I needed to share the computer therefore, I had to save it on a USB key and as a PDF.

Evaluation

In order to evaluate my portfolio I would have to answer the following questions and test them.

Is my portfolio portable ?
Did my final product look like what I had planned?
Was it presentable? Organized?
Did i represent my clothing collection in a good way?
1.Well, first I needed to check if my portfolio was portable and it was. I tested it by carrying it around with me. I brought it to my media class. I brought it home and carried it around with me during the day at school. I did not have problems with it because it fit everywhere. Although I could not put it on a CD due to technical problems on my computer, I saved it on a USB key. Yes, it is portable. It is not hard to carry and it can work on any computer because it was saved on a PDF.

2. My final product did not look like what I had planned. I changed program. I simply did this because i would not have enough time to learn how to use flash because it was VERY complicating even after trying to use tutorials as my teacher told me to do so. There alwasy seemed to be a problem. Therefore, I decided to use indesign. I was a little more familiar with the prgram and i could obtain what I wanted more. I tested this my looking at my investigation phase and my final product. I also had my older brother read my investigation and look at my final product. He did tell me that it didn’t turn out to be what i had said it would be but he also explained that it didnt turn out worse.

3. To find it my artist portfolio was presentable or not i went to compare it to other famous artist portfolios. I obviously couldn’t comparte my quality of work to theirs but i discovered that my portfolio was presentable. It was clear and everything was described. each picture was on a seperate page therefore my portfolio remained organized. There was a picture and a discription underneath making it organzied. Once again I asked my brother to judge this. He said that it was organzied but I could have described some things more precisely. He also told me that I could have enlargened more picture. He explained to me that i had to put the size of my pictures in a small font under my picture.

4. This was one of the biggest questions to answer. Therefore i created a focus group consisting of 5 people. Each of different age groups and i had combination of both sexes. Everyone had similar opinions but at time pointed out different things. ” You really demonstrated what type of clothing you were trying to demonstrate by using light colors and simple fonts.” I was glad to hear this because that was my main idea. I wanted it to be a classy portfolio for summer clothing. I got positive feedback as well as negative. My picture were clear which was a good things. This represented my clothing collection very well. Someone also explained to me that it needed to look a little more professional by having the size of the pictures, explain the materials and fabrics of my clothing, explain my inspiration of my clothing and maybe havingthe logo on some of the clothing. I really enjoyed the feedback because it was very honest and they weren’t simply telling it was good.

In general, I would have gone to change the negative points about my project. Overall I was satisfied with my portfolio itself but I was not pleased with the way I had to hand it in. I was not able to put it on a CD and it really disappointed me that I simply saved it on a USB. The USB key would have had to have a presentable carrier. Like any other product, it can be improved. But I was glad to be able to finish it and i was glad that I learned how to use Indesign all by myself. Throughout my project there was many changes. I didnt follow my investigation phase and this proved to me I did not investigate properly. I only got a general idea but I really needed to know exactly what an artist portfolio was all about.

12 Year-Old Girl Sues Dad

As we can already tell, the way children envision their parents is not the same as 20 years ago. I cannot speak for all children but i can say that the majority of minors do not fully respect the fact that parents have authority. Many children get what they want and the minute something is taken from them they’ll rebel. I believe this isn’t right because your parents are the ones that will try to guide you as much as possible throughout your life and probobly the ones that care for you most. Their job is to protect you and to raise you to become the best person you can be. Parents are also suppose to teach you respect amoung others and yourself. Children no longer respect parents authority. I know that we are human and not perfect and I sometimes myself don’t always listen to my parents but when it all comes down, i respect their decisions no matter how upset i am. This isn’t the case of the 12 year-old daughter who sued he dad. This is situation will now allow kids to have a different mind set towards their parents because we can now sue our own parent! I think this is ridiculous. Firstly, i believe that this father of hers might have provided her with so much and now shes taking away his money that he earned because she thinks that she has the right to do so. The daughter was in complete fault to put graphic pictures of herself on facebook. Any parent would be upset or disappointed. In this case the father decided to prevent his daughter from going to a new york trip. I believe he had every right to do so. I think it is ridiculous how the father could have lost this case. Personally I think that the fact that her parents were seperated should have been a minor factor in this situation. I also believe that the mother is creating a very bad example to go against daughters father. Shes encouraging her daughter not to follow her parents rules. No mater what happened between the mother and father, the mother is showing her daughter how not to take her dad seriously. She can over rule her father no matter what. I also believe that this is stupid that the message is being published in the media. Any child can look at this situation and think of doing the same. The court made a very stupid decision and it setting a very bad example in our society.

Creation Phase of April 11th

This week I had two media classes. The first class I was able to use to the computer but I had to share it therefore my time was cut in half. worked on my artist statement. It didnt take too long because it was already done, i just had to fix uo a few things. I also worked on my title. I played around with the colors. I tried to make it attractive and stick out a little therefore i choose a red/pink color. I continued touching up my pictures like changing their places a little bit and modifying their sizes. i had some trouble making the picture bigger because at time it would not fit the frame. The second class i decided to catch up on all my case study assignments that i wasn’t able to do. I was glad to be able to do this and it didn’t take too much time.

creation phase week of april 6th

This week i made big changes to my project. I didnt follow the plans as i said i would. This would probobly mean that i didn’t investigate everything precisly but i am ready to accept that. Either way, i began to create my project to something that would reach more towrds my goal. I got on a computer both classes. I did all the technical things like make the background (blue), place my pictures, write the text under the pictures etc. The text i wrote under the picture describes the clothing.I also played around with the program to see how i would write my title next class.

so far i am up to date with everything, hopefully it will continue this way.
I am planning to attend on a wednesday morning to get extra time on the computer because there are so many people wanting to use the same computer.

Creation Phase March 23-29

This creation pahse is just the begining of our artist portfolio. I have around to view other collections but this one was more of my likings. It was a collection that remained very classy and it was easy clothing that would suit any women. The clothing was perfect for a day at the beach or a day at work, and that was exactly what i was looking for. This week i also browsed the programs on the computers at school. Origianally i wanted to use Flash Animation. I began testing the program and i had a lot of difficulty. I began look on tutorialize.com to seek for help. I didn’t find the tutorials concerning Flash Animation very helpful. I followed everything step by step yet the results weren’t what i was searching for. It didn’t quite represent what i wanted. Therefore, I looked at the indesign tutorials and they were much simpler to follow and the results were what i was looking for to create my portfolio. Also, with Indesign I was able to add my own personal touch to my portfolio. The program was more familiar to me and i could add effects that i wanted.

Design – Week of March 23

This week, I was really trying to learn how to use Animation. I have found that it is a really hard program to use, especially because I am trying to make a photo gallery where the viewer will click on the photo to view it. I found the pictures I would use in my artist portfolio. Next class, I am going to try to get more work done with Animation and I am hoping I can learn quickly.

Is Technology Making Students Lazy?

I believe this is a great question. Technology has provided us with so many great priviliges. Technology has become somewhat of a necessity in our society and we depend on it for so much. Technology has become so rapid that we normally wait til the last minute to do something. We can have any information we want at our fingertips, therefore we no longer have to physically go to the library to research books. Also, the television has enabled us to view things in our own living room than actually going to exprience it ourselves. We no longer have to go rent a movie at the video store, we can just order it from our television. Technology has enabled us to get whatever we want without displacing ourselves, therefore when it come to actually making a bigger effort it seems so hard. As a result, yes i do believe technology creates lazy students. People have been so closed into their homes because they are distracted by technology in their homes. Instead, they should be outside and doing physical activity. Technology has enabled us to be “spoiled” and it hasn’t motivated students to go the extra mile. Also, playing a video game or looking at your friends new facebook pictures is more appealing than doing homework. Although technology has many negative effects it has also helped us in many ways but as students we made technology get the best of us!

Pepsi Advertisment … Gone Too Far?

Pepsi is one of the top selling soft drinks across the world. It has been around for years and their advertisements haven’t gone unnoticed, especially their Pepsi Max Ads. Everyone knows Pepsi and has tried it at least once. During the early 1900’s, Pepsi Max was claimed to have only one calorie. This seemed like a great catch and it later came to Canada and the United States in 2008.

When my teacher first showed me the controversial advertisements, I didn’t know what to think. All I knew was that this was going to stick to me. The whole point of an advertisement is that it is remembered among the society, and Pepsi Max did not fail. I began to observe the ads and I noticed a “calorie” killing itself using guns, knives, gasoline, a cord and matches. Then, it indicated “One very, very, very lonely calorie.” As you can see, the advertisements are very graphic and may not be a preferable liking of many people. They used a very serious social issue to advertise their product. I believe it worked because it will be remembered and people will recognize their product but I strongly disagree how they used a serious issue to sell a product. Many individuals and families are suffering from a suicidal issue and I would be very angry to see people making a mockery out of this. I don’t believe suicide is something to promote or encourage or to be made a joke out of. Loneliness is the biggest factor of suicides and this advertisement is using this statistic to sell a product. They have succeeded to make people aware of the product but I know that I didn’t appreciate it. I am sure that I am not the only person to say this. This crosses a line and I believe that the advertisement should have been less graphic.
